Volunteer Opportunities (Serving Cheatham, Davidson, DeKalb, Dickson, Macon, Robertson, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale and Wilson Counties) 
| Greet Donors at Community Blood Drives |
- Help blood donors feel valued at community blood drives in the Nashville Area by greeting and escorting donors, monitoring donor reactions and serving refreshments. Friendliness and ability to strike up conversation with others required!
Time requirements:
- Available at least two times per month for a 4-8 hour shift Monday through Friday between 8:00am-7:00pm. Volunteers needed = 20.
and/or...
- Available at least one Saturday per month for a 4-8 hour shift between 8:00am-7:00pm. Volunteers needed = 4.
- Transport blood products collected at community drives to the Nashville Center.
Time requirements: Must be available for 2-6 hours between 8:00am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday. Volunteers needed = 15.
- Transport blood products to Middle Tennessee and Kentucky hospitals. Time requirements: Routes are 6-8 hours long. Must be able to lift 40 lbs. and available from approximately 7:00am-3:00pm, Tuesday-Saturday. Volunteers needed = 5.
- Transport donors from downtown, Metro Center, and area businesses to Charlotte Avenue Donor Center for blood donation. Time requirements: Must be available and on-call Thursdays during business hours. Volunteers needed = 2.
- Make presentations to community groups to increase public awareness and educate people to prevent, prepare for and cope with disasters. Approximately 5 opportunities a month during days, evenings, and weekends.
- Teach First Aid and CPR at the Red Cross center on Charlotte. Must be available during a weekday from 9:00am-5:00pm, or on a weekday evening from 6:00pm-10:00pm, or Saturday from 8:00am-5:00pm. Volunteers needed = 12.
- Conduct Babysitter Training for youth seeking certification. Must be available on Saturdays from 9:00am-3:00pm.
| Assess Hearing & Vision of School Children |
- Conduct hearing and vision screenings at Metro schools. Must be available for 2-4 hours during the school day, Monday-Friday. Volunteers needed = 30-40.
| Assist with office projects and clerical activities |
- We have a critical need for volunteers to help us fulfill our mission through computer data entry, mailing projects, answer phones, and similar activities in a number of departments. Must be consistently available at least one day a week, two or more times per month during business hours for a 3-8 hour shift. Volunteers needed = 8.
- Provide immediate assistance to victims of local and national disasters (such as fires, floods, tornados, etc.) through interviewing families and issuing individual assistance, providing mass feeding and sheltering. You may also work behind the scenes in logistics and reporting functions. Volunteers needed = 150.
Time requirements:
- Must be available and on-call to respond for one week at a time every 2-3 months from 5:00pm-8:00am and 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday.

- Must be consistently available at least one day per week during business hours from 8:00am-5:00pm to respond to disasters.
- Must be available to travel for three weeks at a time to large national disaster relief operations (required only for those interested in responding to large national disasters.) Previous local experience required.
| Respond only to large, local disasters - "Disaster Reserve" |
- Can't meet the time requirements of the routine disaster program but want to help out if a large disaster strikes this area? Become a Disaster Reserve. Just complete our 1-hour Volunteer Orientation and/or our 3-hour Introduction to Disaster Services course, and we will place you on a call down list when disaster needs exceed our capacity. You may be activated 1-2 times a year at most. Volunteers needed = 300.
- Serve as a communication link between military families and service persons in times of emergencies. Message routing is done by phone and email in our office. Must be consistently available at least one day per week for a 4-8 hour shift during business hours from 8:00am-5:00pm. Volunteers needed = 4.
| Help retain existing volunteers - Volunteer Liaison |
- Work from home or in our office. Make 30-40 phone calls a month to volunteers that have served recently and assess their experiences and future needs. Communicate individual issues and general trends to staff. Must have excellent people skills. Prefer 3 months previous Red Cross volunteer experience. One year commitment required. Set your own schedule. Volunteers needed = 2-3.
