Directed and Autologous Donations
.gif)
On occasion, a doctor requests that blood be set aside from designated donors for a particular patient. This situation is called a directed donation.
Sometimes, a patient donates blood in preparation for his or her own surgery. This is called an autologous donation.
These donations are arranged through the Special Donations department and require an appointment at one of our designated sites. Forms describing the details of the donation are prepared by the surgeon's office and are faxed to the Special Donations department of the American Red Cross at (615) 346-7012. The donor then calls (615) 346-7942 for an appointment.
