The news she wanted came: James' surgery went just fine. James Arnold of McKenzie, TN, was born with a congenital developmental skull deformity. He needed specialized care that just wasn't available locally and had to be sent to the Monroe Carell, Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville. His "Nana" said he used two units of red blood cells and two units of plasma.
West Tennessee neighbors and others donated blood to help James and patients like him. The doctors used a bolt that will dissolve in three years to rebuild his skull and donated blood to give the beloved youngster a healthy future.
"You never know where you have to go to get the care you need," said James' Nana, Mary Carter. "I thank everybody for donating blood. You never know when somebody in your family will need it."
James posed before his surgery. Nana hopes the cotton top hair will be back soon!
